Kent Road

The brief

A renovated character home, styled for the camera and for the magazines we wanted it in.

Maytree Studios opened a familiar brick house to the light, carving a double-height void through it while keeping the fairytale silhouette that has anchored the street for decades. Our brief was to style it for an editorial shoot aimed at architectural print and digital media.

We sourced and styled the artwork, furniture and homewares across the house, working to the architecture rather than over it. Burgundy marble, ochre upholstery, terracotta and sage run through the rooms, picked up and answered from one frame to the next.

A long sage green sideboard under a large figurative painting, a framed work beside it, a rust bouclé chair and a woven rug in the foreground. — The sideboard run, hung with a large figurative work and a smaller framed piece.

A plastered arch onto a burgundy stair with a steel balustrade, a sage sideboard holding a rope-tied terracotta vessel and a looped ceramic, a burgundy chair and dark side table in the foreground. — Burgundy stair through the arch, terracotta and rope on the sideboard.

A view between two openings, one to a sitting room with an ochre bouclé sofa and a dark timber side table, the other to an arched alcove holding a pale ceramic vessel. — Ochre bouclé in the front room, a ceramic vessel framed by the arch.

A plastered arch framing a burgundy marble bench on a rust red island, timber chairs, and a small framed painting above a coffee machine beyond. — Burgundy marble and rust joinery, seen through the arch.

A burgundy steel stair with oak treads beside a dark timber side table holding a pale ceramic vessel, the end of the rust island at right. — Oak treads on a burgundy stair, one vessel on a dark side table.

An open kitchen with white joinery and a clerestory window, a long burgundy marble island on rust cabinetry, garden beyond the window. — The kitchen, opened to the garden and lit from above.

Looking up from the kitchen into a double-height void painted sage, a window box projecting above white joinery, a dark sink and the burgundy marble island. — The void, painted sage, above the kitchen.

A bedroom with a timber headboard and built-in desk, sage bedding, a stool, and a guitar leaning against pale joinery. — A bedroom left quiet, the guitar where it is actually kept.

Two plastered arches seen across burgundy marble and a bowl of grapes, one opening onto an ochre bouclé sofa, the other onto a sculptural ceramic vessel. — Two arches, read from the marble bench.

Late light falling across a timber dining table with a single marbled stone bowl, a patterned banquette seat beside it. — One bowl, one stripe of afternoon light.

A dining nook with a timber table, patterned banquette and globe pendant, a woman standing in the open back door and a child running past in a blur. — The house in use, the back door open to the garden.
